This place has horrible food. I get that it's a bar, but even their bar food and drinks are totally lazy and sub par. Our nachos were stale and pretty pathetic; only half the chips were covered in cheese and the rest of the toppings were sparse. My friend ordered the "pizza bread," which was basically no different from those cardboard microwave pizzas, And the "marinara sauce" was literally just tomato paste. I ordered a margarita and it was gross; cheap tequila and margarita mix. While we were there I noticed that all the men coming out of the bathroom had a disgusted look on their face. So, we checked it out, and there was about 3 inches of water on the floor from the toilet overflowing! The service was bad too, the waitress was nice enough, but she kept messing things up and took FOREVER to get our food and checks to us. Probably not going back.. But I'm not really into Pabst or pool either.

I've come to Fats for quite a few social events where the downstairs is rented out. It's a great place for fund raisers. The pool tables are well kept and you don't have to keep returning for quarters. It frees you from the childish "bar rules" most patrons at drinking establishments want to enforce. On a slower night, and if you're nice to the server (and tip them well), they may let you play pool for an extra 30 min or so for free. So be nice. They've got a decent beer selection and by "decent" they at least offer 1 or 2 local brewers, which is a big deal for me. Eat some nachos. They're delicious.

How have I not reviewed this place yet? I think Fats may be the perfect example of my somewhat biased reviews but oh well. Biased in the sense that I only get 1 thing but I absolutely love it. During lunch, they have free pool which is great, and they also have plenty of TVs to watch whatever game happens to be on that day. They have a decent beer selection and now have a liquor license which is pretty cool. I don't see it as a place I'd want to really hang to drink liquor, but to each their own. Now on to the good part... food! The TNT burger is proof that humans should eat meat. Sorry you vegetarians but this burger IS science. Okay im kidding, but it is my favorite burger in SLC. Not quite as spicy as i'd like, but its put together very well. It comes with enough fries to feed a small valley and they are baked instead of fries. Many times, i'll find almost half of my fries have burnt ends which is my favorite thing in the world. The service is good and the atmosphere is fun... what more can you ask for?

The TNT burger is on my top 5 list for best burgers in America, even though I opt for the jalapeños on the side ( I sneak a few in there). The fries, eh.. The bleu cheese burger is my fiancees fav! Usually Fats has good local tunes and pool sharks waiting to earn a few beers. I highly suggest this place!

My boyfriend and I went on a Groupon offer. Sometimes when I've used Groupons, I've felt like we've had less attention or been treated poorly. Not the case here. The place was packed, and it did make getting our food a little slow, but the waitress was very cool and kept us up to day with what was going on. Super nice staff, very attentive. When the burgers arrived, they were awesome. It was the best veggie black bean burger I've had in my life. I also like the option of being able to go there during the later hours of the evening, since they are a bar. However the menu looked fantastic and I can't wait to go back and give their other food a try. Awesome Sugar House location.

Really nice cozy place in Sugarhouse. I like going there in the middle of the week when it is not busy. Their food is so-so, but they have decent selection of beers.

I want to like this place so much. Really I do. I've given it three go-arounds here and every time I feel like I walk out a little let down. My first visit greeted me with a broken grill, which I was understanding about. These things happen, so I picked up a Caesar wrap that was mostly good, but was virtually devoid of dressing. On my second visit I got their TNT Burger, which was about as spicy as some Spicy Nacho Doritos but still tasty. A place on the verge of greatness that unfortunately falls short on the details of making great food.

The skinny kid bartender with the big mole on his forehead is seriously the worst bartender I have ever had the displeasure of ordering from. I'm sure at his last job he was a great gumball machine, I just don't think they should have promoted him to bartender. I would add his name to the review but he chose to hang his stunna shades over his name badge. I really enjoy this place most days of the week. But that's the days this kid is not fumbling around where bartenders are supposed to be. While I write this he is standing in front of me cutting limes. My beer glass is empty and he could care less. Sad.! I don't want to leave a 1 star cuz I actually like this bar. But if I see him behind the bar next time I come in I will go elsewhere...!

We stopped by because we were seriously craving some ooey gooey cheesy cheese fries and someone on the interwebs said that this was the place. When we got there the place was pretty dead, but I would expect as much from showing up at a bar at 4 in the afternoon. I ordered a garlic burger and Blue ordered a good ol bacon cheese burger. We both upgraded our regular fries to cheese fries. Even though they were dead it still took a bit to get our food. The burgers.... Decent. I was slightly disappointed that my garlic burger was essentially a regular burger with a spoonful of minced garlic on top. The cheese fries were OK, but not as ooey or gooey as we would have hoped. The cheese was a little over cooked and only covered the top layer. That being said, they had a great flavor and there were plenty of them. Overall a decent place to play some pool and eat.

Sweet little place. They have tons of pool tables, always have poker going on, and a spot for live music. Ãœber friendly staff that are both welcoming and accommodating. Good chill spot!

I've been coming here for 3 years and have never had a bad time. The food is good and offers a decent variety for all pallets with a full bar and several regulation pool tables. Come with an appetite and thirst for beer and order off the menu with a triple fats burger and natural ice cans for a dollar!

  • Brett K.

Fats is pretty cool. Upstairs has a full restaurant, bar, and pool tables. The food is decent, burgers are pretty good. But the best part is the basement: a full live music venue with its own bar and another pool table. It's dark and comfortable and always interesting. Beer is a tad overpriced, though.

Awesome service, if you're definition of awesome means clueless, slow, sub-par and mediocre.

I guess it's a good idea to update reviews every 4-5 years. Fats is still great. Now that they have a full bar, things are even better! The atmosphere is nice. It's cozy and inviting, but still a bit raucous and somewhat noisy. They have live music most nights and it's usually pretty good stuff. The pool tables are in great shape. They're always level and the cushions are true. The food is mostly average to slightly above average. The wings are fries are travesties. BAKED french fries? Shouldn't they be called "French bakes" or something? They're just sad. Same goes for the wings. They're baked and they're not good a'tall. I would suggest getting a pizza, or a burger, or a sandwich. I would give the food 2-3 stars, but the full bar, awesome pool tables, and excellent service bump the overall rating to "Yay! I'm a fan."

This is why people think bars in Utah lack in comparison to the rest of the country. Horrible service each time I go. I know you're busy, I can be a patient woman, but fries - yes plain ol' FRIES - should never come out 43 minutes after I order them cold and hard. The pizza is a sad mess and will never be ordered again from an experience months ago, the loaded cheese fries looked like they rose from the dawn of the dead 40 years ago, the nachos were the best thing our table actually didn't send back but how can you screw up chips with cheese? To sum it up, don't even pretend you're going to eat here. Spend your hard earned paper elsewhere and save them from the embarrassment. Also Fatty, don't advertise $1 beer and $3 shots on the night of a big event if your management and waitstaff hasn't fully prepared for what business that would bring into your establishment. Fix the food, get your management up to speed with the rest of the world, train your waitstaff properly, and I will attempt to pretend that will fix your issues. Until then, there's a bar five steps away where you should go instead.

Came here after with friends since we were hungry and didn't want to stand in line for another two hours during the food festival and I really like this place. The menu consist of typical bar food which isn't bad and I had their chicken teriyaki taco and it was awesome! The tortilla was soft, the chicken was tender and the veggies were fresh. The staff was friendly and accommodated my needs when I asked them to exclude olives since I'm allergic to them. The teriyaki sauce was light and I liked how they didn't drench the chicken in sauce which would make my burrito hard to eat and my bread would've gotten soggy. The waiter was friendly and came by with drinks quickly. The place is kept clean and I will be back!

Awesome bar tender, great pool... came in early on a Thursday night and was very impressed. Laid back sugar house crowd.

This is definitely a bar first and a restaurant second. The service was nonexistent, I had to order at the cash register and I brought our water to the table myself. The food was definitely bar food. The nachos looked delicious but weren't that great. The burgers were much better, but we're not amazing. I think having drinks and playing pool would offer a better experience than eating here.

Been here a couple times and the food both times was A-OK. The atmosphere is pretty chill and a good place to go with friends and have a beer or two. I would come here again just to relax with friends, and maybe eat some light food.

Good location, OK ambiance & sports viewing, reasonably priced pool but... Hands down THE WORST bar food I've ever had (in 34 years). Not sure how they can make a burger inedible but they did it. Salad and Nachos very weak too.

Pool hall! that's right, kids, this is where you go to get your billiard on. But wait--there's more. It's part pool hall, part bar, part restaurant, and part venue. Pool Hall I dunno. I didn't play. But they're there, and they look to be in pretty good shape. A whole row of them, and a whole bunch of people who know about them and who want to be there shooting. It wasn't too packed (read: kinda quiet) on a Wednesday night and there was room to belly up to the table. Bar Yup. Bar. Drinks. I don't partake, so really I'm semi-useless in this category. But some folks do, and you can get your drank on. It looks like a beer-and-well-drink kind of place. Not a lot of mixology. Restaurant The burger brought me here. And though the bun was a hair dry, it was a tasty one. Mantern loves him the jalapeño burger, but that's because he's not a wussy mouth like me. For me, it was more simple than all that. They have a few takes on the classic burger. Lots of fried stuff. That's their thing, and it's like bar food with a focus on bar food. The wings were well done (a little too much) and the cheese fries were a pile of calories (full of more calories and happiness) and that's what to expect. Venue We had some live music. I'm told there actually is a downstairs and they have music there. Having not seen it, I can't vouch. But worth checking out. Sugar House is such a cool neighborhood that you really need to have a place with live music right here.

I suppose the name says it all, you come to this place to pick up some weight... Drink beer, play pool, eat burgers and fried stuff. This place is quite big, they have a few pool tables, a bar, an area for live music, and a basement open occasionally for parties. I guess it is not like other bars where they check your ID first thing you entered, but only afterward if you order an alcoholic beverage. I was torn between the TNT Burger and the Green Chile Bacon Burger, both looked quite tempting. I ended up going with TNT Burger since I was told to be spicier. It was delicious and provided a mouthful of warm fuzzy feelings. It came with regular fries and fry sauce, they were ok. I also tried some wings, cheese fries, and nachos, the wings actually taste better than they look, the cheese fries and nachos were both super cheesy. Fats Grill is place where you can find a comfortable bar experience and not-your-average-bar-food. Service can be a bit slow in times and live music can be quite loud if you sit too close. Too bad we did not play pool that night.

Sadly, this place has gone down hill. I went there for dinner and drinks last week. We were told they had no beer on tap. Then as we ordered food, were told they were out of burgers. Burgers, which is arguably, the best thing on their menu, not to mention majority of their menu offerings. So my dining companion ordered something else and we received our food. A table near us ordered and when food was delivered, miraculously, they received a burger. The server asked my companion if he then wanted a burger, half way though his meal. She did not offer to comp it or take any off our bill, just wanted to know if he wanted to order an additional burger. Then the bill came, they have the audacity to charge $9 for a bottle of Stella Artois. We were forced to order bottled beer because there was no beer on tap. The entire experience was disappointing and confusing. We will not be back.

No wheelchair access to basement which is where the music is. I have been told that staff will be happy to assist.

They've got a very large burger that's pretty good. I've only been for a late lunch a few times, but the atmosphere just isn't really my style. It's a little heavy on the fried things and a good place to go if you're looking for a game of pool. I wouldn't necessarily come here just to hang out and relax with friends.

I've only been once but had a decent Reuben sandwich. Not sure if I'll ever go back. It seemed to be mostly a sausage party of locals.

I'll start with the worst part and try to work my way up. First, the food was awful. If that's all you end up reading from this review, it's all the info you need. I ordered the Mexican panini with fries. Upon its arrival I could tell something was wrong. The cheese on my sandwich was cold, but the chicken was cooked to a crisp. The fries that came along with the sandwich tasted freezer burnt. Overall, it was just nasty food. Terrible. I sent it back and the waitress agreed to take it off the check. Actually, that was the only good part. I didn't pay for the food, and unfortunately for this establishment, nobody should and I get the feeling that people frequently don't.

Bar food was pretty standard, drinks were not too overpriced, and they were cool about letting our group use the downstairs area for a couple hours for an event. Would go again.

Fun, casual bar. Loved the pool, even though it costs hourly to use the tables ($9.00 per hour, split into 15 minute slots). The ambiance was nice - modern, clean, and local art on display. Lots of character. Drinks were fairly priced. A pitcher of Bud Light for $9.50 isn't bad - it filled 5 glasses. Went there on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too packed, but still had life. Their Tollhouse dessert was a-maz-ing. It was like a chocolate double-crusted pie with chocolate sauce and lots of whipped cream. Literally was licking the plate, and for $4, was tempted to get two of them! They even take special drink requests. Only cons were that they don't tell you the pricing up front for the pool etc, and it took us a few minutes to get their attention when we were ready to pay and head home. Definitely would come back again!

This is a really nice bar. Very clean, good people, very relaxed environment with live music, pool, etc. Old reviews state it's beer only but that's changed. They are a full service bar with cocktails, beer and wine. They also have a pretty extensive food menu, though we didn't order anything to eat when we visited. I liked it and would definitely visit again and try out the menu. It has a nice relaxed, college feel to it and I love the location in the heart of Sugarhouse.

Stopped here with the wife while doing some Christmas shopping a couple of months ago. We were in the area and just decided to pop in before picking up the kids from day care. It's a bit tucked away in Sugar House, just down the block from the abomination known as the Sugar Hole. It's a local joint that is loaded with T.V's, pool tables and a nice long bar. A great place to hang out, eat a burger, shoot the shi*t and play some pool. A solid three stars from me. If I didn't have two wee ones, I would spend a lot of time here.

Fats Grill seems to be a popular joint but it's not really my thing. I ate here once with my Dad and was unimpressed with the food. I ordered a hamburger with fries. The burger was overcooked and a bit grissled. The fries were nothing outstanding. Service was good, our waitress made sure we had what we needed and kept our glasses full. Fats Grill seems like it would be a cool place to hang-out and play pool but I didn't care for the food.

We enjoy the new look and menu items both food and drink. 12/10/10 We had lunch and the burgers were out of this world! You can ask for special fixings and they are more than happy to make it just the way you like it.

Terrible service. Waited 20 minutes for server. No manager on hand to delegate responsibilities. I am amazed this place stays in business.
